StudentDebtMap: Loan Payoff Visualizer
Interactive timeline and payoff calculator that shows college students exactly when they'll be debt-free under different repayment plans, with side-by-side comparisons of federal vs private loan strategies.
The Problem
College students have multiple loans with different interest rates, terms, and repayment options (Standard, Income-Driven, etc.), but existing tools either oversimplify the math or require students to manually calculate scenarios. Students can't visualize the long-term financial impact of their choices and often don't understand how much extra they'll pay in interest under different plans.
Target Audience
Recent college graduates (ages 22-28) with federal and/or private student loans who are making repayment plan decisions and want clarity on their financial timeline.
Why Now?
Student loan repayment pause ended in October 2023, forcing millions back into active decision-making. Generational anxiety around debt is high, and Gen Z values financial transparency and visual tools.
What's Missing
Existing tools focus on refinancing (not repayment planning) or are government-owned and lack UX appeal. No tool gives students a compelling, interactive 10-year visual timeline of their debt payoff journey.
